When to register copyright work?
For maximum protection, registration should be carried out before the work becomes available for others to see; i.e. before you publish your work online, or send it to publishers, agents, etc.
Should my work be registered?
If you are not sure if you should register, you may wish to use our self assessment pages. These ask a range of questions about your work, and give a recommendation for your specific work and circumstances.
What if my work changes?
Often a copyright work will continue to develop after registration. This is not a problem, any significant updates or changes that you wish to be include can be added as registration updates later. Please see our fact sheet P-17: Updating copyright registrations for details on this.
